The Day Australia Recognised
Croatia as Independent and Sovereign State

An interview by Ina Vukic with Dr Andrew Theophanous, a former member of Australian parliament for 21 years, whose ardent support for the international recognition of Croatian independence was of key importance during the early 1990’s. In 1996 Croatia’s president Dr Franjo Tudjman awarded Dr Theophanous with a Medal of Honor – the Order of the Croatian Interlace, an award bestowed upon foreign and domestic nationals for their distinguished contribution to the development and reputation of the Republic of Croatia and the welfare of her citizens.

  • This year, 2016, will mark 25 years since Croatia declared on 25 June 1991 independence from former Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia and in the eyes of Australian Croatians you stood as one of Australian heroes and champions that supported Croatia’s plight for secession from communist…

sanders-vote

By Cooper Allen and Nicole Gaudiano

June 24, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “USA Today” –  Bernie Sanders may not be quite ready to formally end his Democratic presidential bid, but he says he will vote for Hillary Clinton in November.

Speaking on MSNBC Friday morning, he was asked whether he planned to vote for Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in the fall election.

“Yes. Yeah, I think the issue right here is, I’m going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump,” the Vermont senator said. “I think Trump, in so many ways, will be a disaster for this country if he were to be elected president.”

What gigantic three days of last week in the political life of Croatia.
In the wake of the Commission for conflicts of interests decision that conflict of interest applied to him in the case of INA/MOL and his wife’s business dealings, the leader of the majority party in government, Croatian Democratic Union/HDZ Tomislav Karamarko on Wednesday 15 June resigned as First Deputy Prime Minister; but not without emphasising that HDZ, as relatively major seat holder in parliament, was not giving up its fight to form a new government within the 30 days defined by law after a fall of government and that new elections were the very last option HDZ would look to. Indeed, HDZ has been giving confident reassurances that it has decided upon its candidate for the new Prime Minister (current finance minister…

Investigation Into The Death of Kendrick Johnson – DOJ’s Announcement of No Charges

We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident

(I’m writing this on 3 hours of sleep, so please forgive any typographical errors.)

o-KENDRICK-JOHNSON-facebook Kendrick Johnson

In January 2013, 17-year old Kendrick Johnson was found dead in a gym mat in the Lowndes High School gym in Georgia. The US Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia opened an investigation in October of 2013.

This afternoon, DOJ offices announced that they will not file criminal charges in the death of Kendrick Johnson due to “insufficient evidence” to prove that anyone “willfully violated Kendrick Johnson’s civil rights” or committed any other crime.

Acting U.S. Attorney Carole Rendon stated;

“The Department of Justice, in particular the lawyers and investigators who have worked tirelessly on this investigation, express their most sincere condolences to Kendrick Johnson’s parents, family, and friends. We cannot imagine the pain of their loss, or the depths of their sorrow. We regret that we were unable to provide them with…

Crystal Palace Park and Dinosaurs

Fantastic photographs and stories. Hugs, Barbara

Freed From Time

Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs 4195

While strolling through the park one day, in the merry merry month of May (at the southern end),
I was taken by surprise, by a pair of roguish eyes,
I was scared but I didn’t run away,

Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs 4193

He walked along so daintily, moving as graceful as can be,
His legs were like the trunks of trees, I hardly came up to his knees,

Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs

He looked at me again, and I knew we would be friends,
He’s just a little bigger than me!

Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs 4178

He had the cutest baby too, about as old as me and you,
Maybe soon one day, we could all go out and play,
And be friends with one, elephants in the park,

Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs 4160

He walked along so daintily, moving as graceful as can be,
I though I’d seen a lot of things, from New York to Colorado Springs,

Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs 4167

From his tail up to his trunk, from the…

California Primary: Returning to the Scene of Crime

The Most Revolutionary Act

If-every-vote-counted-BBB-TedRall

By Greg Pallast and Dennis Bernstein

Editor: How can California declare Clinton the winner of the primary when 96% of the votes were never received by election officials? I love the one about the guy who had to call the police before the poll workers allowed him to vote.

This week on The Best Democracy Money Can Buy — Election Crimes Bulletin — the Crime Scene: California. The Crime? Two million votes still not counted. One million ballots already disqualified, thrown away. Another million so-called provisional “placebo” ballots. Here’s the story of the voting horror show you won’t get on Fox or MSDNC.

[Transcript: Originally broadcast June 8, 2016]

ennis J Bernstein:This week, we’re going to do a postmortem on yesterday’s California primary. Greg, I know you were out there. You were also trying to vote?

Palast: I think we need to get a long piece of yellow tape…
