NATO’s War of Aggression against Yugoslavia

It is not right that NATO is continuing their attacks on the former countries that used to make up Yugoslavia. I had grandparents who fled from Croatia. No population has the right to attempt to annihilate another population. Including the UN and NATO and America. Hugs, Barbara

Seventeen year ago: March 1999, NATO’s war on Yugoslavia. Article originally published in 1999, published by Global Research in 2003.

General Wesley Clark (image right) , NATO’s Supreme commander in Europe, confirmed in late May [1999] that “NATO’S air campaign has not reached its peak yet and the alliance should be prepared for more civilian casualties.”.

General Clark also confirmed that “he would be seeking to increase the number of air strikes in Kosovo and expand the range of targets.

As the bombings entered their third month, there was also a noticeable change in “NATO rhetoric”. The Alliance had become increasingly unrepentant, NATO officials were no longer apologising for civilian casualties, claiming that the latter were contributing to “helping Milosevic’s propaganda machine.”

WE-Change Celebrated International Women’s Day in a Very Special Way

Petchary's Blog

Due to the pressure of other things, I was unable to attend most of the International Women’s Day events last week. There was a plethora of them, especially at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus, including a lecture at Mary Seacole Hall and the UNDP’s launch of a new publication “Where Are The Women?” to name but two… The event that I especially did not want to miss was WE-Change’s “Her Legacy,” which honored Jamaican women, with a focus on several individuals (including myself – I felt humbled). It was funded by J-FLAG and UN Women. I should not have been absent, but I had to be. However, I hear that it was an enormous success, attended by a cross-section of Jamaican women (and men). I am sharing below some thoughts from founder Latoya Nugent, and selected photographs from the evening’s happenings. This was a milestone event…

Croatia, the War, and the Future

Last week from March 9, Croatia closed its borders to most refugees/migrants transiting to northern Europe through Croatia in a bid to close the so-called Balkan route, which starts in Turkey via boats to Greece then up to Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany … used by hundreds of thousands of people seeking a new life in Europe.  Many genuine refugees among them but reportedly more illegal migrants. This move by Croatia to close borders means that only those seeking asylum immediately after crossing the border into Croatia are permitted through (and there are very few of those as most want to go North to more affluent countries) as well as emergency (humanitarian) cases needing medical treatment they cannot obtain in a country they’re already in (e.g. Serbia). Slovenia closed its borders at the same time…

Super Tuesday: This Newbie Votes!

Excellent post. Great writing. Congratulations! Hugs, Barbara

The Chicago Files

Primary 2016

In the United States today we have something called, “Super Tuesday”.  Now I must tell you that I find the election process here extremely complicated, exciting, and important all at the same time.

I will be voting in my first federal election today as a US Citizen!  Today the states of Illinois (my state), Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio vote in what is known as the, “Primary” election.  The reason for “Super Tuesday” is that more than one state is voting today.  Other Primary elections will be held with only one state voting at a time.

For those of you who are in the US and have experience with voting in US elections, my haphazard way of understanding even a bit of the process will no doubt make you grin; however, for those of us ‘newbies’ or living outside the US, it is a rather daunting and intimidating process.

March 16th, 2016. A whale missing most of its tail has been spotted off the Kaikoura coast.

The humpback was first seen by a Department of Conservation ranger on Monday, but despite missing its tail flukes, the whale was moving well and seemed relaxed.

“What was left of the whale’s tail was tapered like an arrow tip,” Kaikoura ranger Mike Morrissey said.

That’s what landscape artist Francis McComas  said about this spot along the Pacific Ocean Coastline at Carmel, California.  Point Lobos State Natural Reserve became part of California’s State Park system in 1933. They only allow 150 vehicles in the park at any given time in order to preserve its tranquility.

Mockin’ the cacti…

Oh, I love the mocking. Good photos. Hugs, Barbara

Pouring My Art Out

a 1

Yes, in Arizona, cacti mocking is a thing…

a 2

You know, like cow tipping is a thing… somewhere…

a 3

No… it isn’t really a thing… the thing is… (and I mean as in one of my patented blog ‘things’ that is)… that this is a thing only in so far as this is a thing that my daughter and I do when we walk in the desert in Arizona…

a 4

Because, believe me, cacti do not like to be mocked…

a 5

And you do not want a bunch of angry saguaro cacti chasing you around the desert…

a 6

Okay, they can’t really chase you… unless you are on peyote… but they have ways of expressing their displeasure…

a 7

Jessica is particularly good at cacti mocking…

a 8

But she does it quickly, and then leaves the area…

a 9

But, as you can plainly see from the expression on that cacti’s face, they were not amused.

Waiting For The Sun

DREAMS AND ESCAPES

It’s still a long way to go before the sun shows its face. and I sit in the quiet savouring the sounds that an early morning brings. Who would not know the beauty of stillness? Who would not love a  beginning of another day?  Who would not crave for the peace that reigns in one’s heart amidst the noise of daily living?

And I long for this, the beauty of the day in all its glory.
