This was a fun painting to work on! Here are some work-in-progress pics:

I started by applying a light skim coat of white Gesso over a very old watercolour painting that I never finished. Following the general shapes I loosely sketched out some areas in pencil. I started by applying a light skim coat of white Gesso over a very old watercolour painting that I never finished. Following the general shapes I loosely sketched out some areas in pencil.

I started laying down broad areas of acrylic paint using a variety of tools: paintbrush, credit card, paper towel (to add texture)... Broad areas of acrylic paint were created using a variety of tools: paintbrush, credit card, paper towel (to add texture), and even my fingers… very therapeutic!

As I added layers I started defining shapes, using both opaque and translucent paints to cover or alter the colours beneath. Texture was added by scribing into the surface & applying more paint and in some areas scrubbing it into the surface then wiping some of it off. Both opaque and translucent pigments were chosen to either cover or alter the colours below. As layers of paint were added I began defining and refining shapes.
